On Saturday, June 20th, at 3p, the Fremont Arts Council (FAC) will bring the always astounding, creative & colorful, and fantastically fun Solstice Parade to the streets of Fremont. What is more fun than watching the Solstice Parade roll through our community? Participating!!
Volunteers are needed for the FAC Solstice, and even those artistically-challenged can contribute their time and talents to this tremendous outpouring of art! Please consider giving some time. There are 55 ensembles registered (as of two weeks in advance) for the 2015 Parade, providing plenty of opportunities to get involved!
Consider joining in with:
- Gira Sol with Cameron Mason: Carry a batik-ed banner for the parade, then place it at Gas Works Park, to decorate the after-party celebration. More information at vida@seanet.com
- Re*Form, Trans*Form, Collaborate! multi-ensemble with Carl Smool: Help create papier-mâché hands, or be a float pusher, drone carrier, hope bringer, or spotter during the parade. More information at carlsmool@gmail.com
- Remediation Black Flag with Buster Simpson: With art recently shown at Greg Kucera Gallery, the black flag presents an agitprop, with connotations that invert negative associations into a positive response. Be a flag bearer, and ritualistic folder. More information at willow.wilcox.fox@gmail.com

In addition, the FAC needs money! They will be holding a fundraising beer garden on June 20th from 9a – 6:30p, on N. 36th St between Evanston & Fremont Avenues (behind the Lenin Statue.) Volunteers are needed as beer pourers, and for other jobs to help the FAC, including:
- Parade Registration: Customer service oriented individuals are needed to check in photographers, ensembles and parade teams as well as answer questions about the parade – best of all? You can still watch the parade after helping – time commitment 11a – 3p on June 20th.
- First Aid Providers: First Aid & CPR training is needed, and EMT certification is a plus in helping with minor scrapes and dehydration, or any medical emergency during the parade, and during the Solstice Celebration at Gas Works Park after. These two hour shifts run between 10a – 9p.
- Crowd Monitors: Get the best view of the parade, while reminding spectators to stay out of the street, and helping with security. These volunteers get hospitality coupons for the Solstice Celebration – time commitment 1p – 5p on June 20th.
- HONK! Band Ushers: Help out behind the scenes by escorting the out-of-town parade participants into place. Time commitment 11a – 3p on June 20th.
- Information Booth Staff: Work directly with the public, answer questions about the FAC, Solstice Parade, first aid, lost & found – time commitment is a two-hour shift between 3p – 9p
- Truck Load-In Crew: Load-in and set up in Gas Works Park for the Solstice Celebration – time commitment 9p – 11p on Friday, June 19th
The biggest of ensembles, and fundraisers, for the FAC is the Green Hat Money Bunnies. Please consider giving generously, of money or time. On June 17th, from 6p – 9p, there will be a drop-in meeting for those interested in donning bunny ears and passing the hat during the parade.
