Over the next three months, the Puget Soundkeeper will hold three clean-up events to pick up trash from Seattles waterways. Last year, their volunteers removed more that 1,500 pounds of debris, during land and water-based clean-ups, to protect our urban waters from dangerous pollution.
Sponsored by Brown Bear Car Wash, these clean-ups can be done by kayak or canoe. Volunteers can bring their own, or borrow one from Puget Soundkeeper partners. Volunteers will be given clean-up supplies, a t-shirt, and a picnic lunch.
The three clean-ups this summer are:
- Saturday, June 16th from 10a to Noon at the Arboretum (click here for details)
- Thursday, July 5th from 8a to Noon for the Lake Union Fireworks Clean-up (click here for details)
- Saturday, August 4th in Salmon Bay (click here for details)
The Puget Soundkeeper Alliance often get more volunteer sign-ups for these waterway clean-ups than they can outfit, so those interested should register in advance – sooner rather than later. Those who care about cleaning our urban waterways, and want to spend time collecting trash from kayak or canoe, should visit the Puget Soundkeeper website today.
