Due to COVID-19, many of our lives have been turned upside down, and many have lost their jobs. For those looking to change their lives for the positive, and to find better employment, Literacy Source can help with the basic education skills that can lead to a whole new life.
The non-profit learning center, previously located in Fremont, Literacy Source offers free educational program to immigrants, refugees and low-income peoples in our community that need proficiency in reading, writing and math. From its center in Lake City, Literacy Source creates a gateway to better opportunities in employment.
The Literacy Source programs include:
- Adult Basic Education
- English for Speakers of Other Language (Levels 1 to 5)
- Citizenship Preparation
- Digital Literacy
- Ready to Work Classes
As a result of the COVID-19 precautions, Literacy Source classes can now be accessed remotely, and hopefully reach more students who might have limited transportation and time access. Literacy Source students can be located anywhere in the Greater Seattle area.
Registration is now open for Fall Classes, with open spots in all programs. The Ready-To-Work class is a comprehensive program that provides opportunities for people with limited-English skills to work towards economic self-sufficiency. In this program, the language learning lessons are supplemented with job placement services and on-going skills training. The Ready-To-Work curriculum centers on workforce-readiness including career exploration, job-hunting skills, work-based communication, and digital literacy.
If you know anyone who needs a step up, or another opportunity to improve their life, please share the word about registering for Fall Classes at Literacy Source (click here.)
