There is no understating the damage being caused to Fremont’s businesses by the need for extended COVID-19 closures, but there is also no underestimating the way our small, local businesses can react, and reinvent in response to the pandemic’s tragic consequences.
While MANY Fremont restaurants were able to shift quickly to a delivery/take-out model – and have found some kind of way to stay open during the ‘Stay Home, Stay Healthy’ quarantine; feeding us in our physical distance. For a way to find Fremont restaurants near you, wherever you are sheltering, check out the City of Seattle SupportPugetSoundSmallBusinesses map (click here.)
Wonderful news is that a few of our favorite restaurants that were forced to close at first have now re-opened –
- Shawn O’Donnell’s Fremont Location – Now open everyday from 11a – 8p, the Irish Pub & American Grill can do take-out and delivery, by phone at 206-430-3656 or UberEats Fremont, and is undergoing training with staff on ways to operate under new COVID-19 requirements. Meanwhile, they continue to do trivia on Tuesdays, on-line (find out more on Facebook – click here,) and accepting donations to help a Feed The Frontline GoFundMe through the Shawn O’Donnell’s website (click here.)
- Qazi’s Indian Curry House – Fremont’s only Indian restaurant has now created a website allowing for on-line ordering, as well as pick-up/take-away. Like many of Fremont’s small, family-owned restaurants, Qazi’s (and Kwanjaii Thai next door!) an on-line presence and technology have not played a big part in their feeding of Fremont through the years. Please help these favorite eateries in reaching out to the community and serving food that not only keeps us going, but keeps them going as well!!
- Heavy Restaurants – The owners of Fiasco & Pablo Y Pablo have re-opened six of their amazingly delicious restaurants. On one website (click here) find hours, and methods of getting your food, as well as links to menus. It’s a great time to feast on your favorites from Pablo Y Pablo, and explore the delicious dishes at Fiasco, or just try out one of the other Heavy Restaurants through a delivery service. Find out more on the HeavyAtHome website (click here).
- Nuna Ramen – This relatively new restaurant now has a website that allows for on-line orders, and a way for us to get our Poké Bowl meals. Visit the Nuna Ramen website (click here) for more information.
- Palmi Teriyaki – Pedestrians have reported at this restaurant very literally at the Center of the Universe (the former Yak’s Teriyaki location,) has re-opened, for take-out. It’s worth a walk in the fresh air, provided you are healthy and nearby, to check in at this famous doorway and see what you can have for lunch!
In addition to serving food, our restaurants can now sell liquor – and a few of our favorite bars are selling off the back bar. If you have ever wanted to take home some of those amazing bottles at The Backdoor, you can now quench your thirst with your take-out! Grab a bottle, or a drink kit, while picking up take-out from Norm’s Eatery. Right now at Norm’s pick-up a favorite meal, or get something off the limited Roxy’s Diner menu. However, go now because The Backdoor bar supplies are limited!
Together, our community will get through this pandemic and with COVID-19 precautions in place, we hope to be seeing everyone soon at celebrations and festivals. The important thing is to keep supporting our small businesses in Fremont, and the work of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce to strengthen our business district. See members of the Fremont Chamber on the North Seattle Town Hall on Thursday, May 7th at 4:30p – to RSVP click here.
