In addition to closures of lanes on Aurora Avenue south of the bridge, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has announced two more closures.
This weekend, January 16th & 17th, from 6:30a until Noon, at the latest, WSDOT will be closing two southbound lanes – leaving one open at all times. Bridge maintenance crews will be conducting inspection work, in advance of a large scale painting and preservation project on the historic structure.
Starting on Monday, January 18th, the sidewalk on the northbound side of the Aurora Bridge/State Route 99 will be closed to both cyclists and pedestrians, through September. The closure is necessary while contractor crews attach a containment system for use during the upcoming preservation project, to keep paint and debris from falling into the water.
Signage will be posted at both ends of the bridge to warn pedestrians and cyclists of detours, along with a contact number and emergency phone for vehicle pickup to assist ADA users who may be unable to use the detours.
Real time traffic information, on these closures as well as the 4 – 6 week lane closures on Aurora Avenue south of the bridge, can be found on the WSDOT traffic website, or by dialing 511.
