On Saturday, June 6th, at 3p, everyone is welcome to a community-wide sharing of stories on the events of Fremont Month. In June, our neighborhood will host the Fremont Fun Run & Briefcase Relay (June 5th,) Fremont Chamber Picnic-In-The-Park (June 17th,) Fremont Fair (June 19th – 21st,) Seattle Art Car Blowout (June 20th & 21st,) and Fremont Arts Council Solstice Parade (June 20th.) At History House, on June 6th, come take part in a Chat on the origins of all these events, and share your own favorite memories of the by-gone days of these favorite Fremont festivities, hosted by Fremocentrist.com’s own Kirby Lindsay Laney.
The Fremont Fair began with card tables and a wish to have neighbors share their resources, over forty years ago. The Solstice Parade picked up, in 1989, where the Fremont Parade stopped. The 5K Fun Run used to take place the night before the Fremont Fair, with the Briefcase Relay added on in an attempt to save lives – and some dignity. Hear more of the stories behind these beloved events, with research and some special guests, including Kelly Lyles, who will talk about the origins of the vividly visual Art Car Blowout.
Please consider bringing along your own stories, and photos, clippings, or ephemera, about any of these events. If you want to have any images included in the actual presentation, contact Laney at instigator@box2219.temp.domains Let’s make this a community-wide Chat on where Fremont Month began – and where we want it to take us in the future.
Find more about this free presentation on the Facebook events page, and mark the date now on your calendar to make sure you attend the Fremont Fireside Chat on ‘The Fun Of Fremont: How It Got Started’!
