On Saturday, August 22nd, from 11a – 3p, the Seattle Art Cars will be visiting the Center of the Universe – and those who can maintain a safe, social distance, while visiting Fremont, are welcome to stroll by U-Park Lot #75 (at N 35th St & Phinney Ave N) for a look!
The Seattle Art Cars hosts a huge (second largest in North America) gathering of Art Cars every year during the Fremont Street Fair. This year, with COVID-19, the Fair and the Seattle Art Car BlowOut, were cancelled. It was a discouraging disappointment for the Art Cars, their fans, and everyone who stumbles upon these whimsical, and practical, works of art.
In April, inspired by the Minnesota ArtCar community, the Seattle Art Cars began doing drives around to senior living facilities, low-income housing facilities, childcare centers, and a few drive-by birthday celebrations. With the help of the Seattle Department of Parks Lifelong Recreation, the Office of Arts & Culture, and a lot of generous Art Car drivers, the COVID Caravans have continued, twice a month, throughout the summer!
Thanks to the University of Washington, the Seattle Art Cars have also held two socially distant, no contact tailgates – and now they will gather for a third at the Center of the Universe! Along with the Rotary Club of Fremont, food trucks from Kathmandu Momocha and Flair Taco, the Down Under Gallery, and the Cosmic Ice Cream Van, Fremocentrist.com hopes to welcome and thank the Seattle Art Cars for keeping our region jolly and cheered during what could be a dark and depressing time.
The Art Car Tailgate in Fremont will be observing all COVID-19 precautions and regulations, and all visitors are asked to maintain their distance, wear a germ-preventative face covering, and not come by if you have a fever or suspect you are sick. See you there – or otherwise around the Center of the Universe!!
