For the Easter weekend, City of Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan has closed 15 major Seattle parks from 11p on Friday, April 10th to 4:30a on Monday, April 13th.
In an effort to advance social (and physical) distancing guidelines, to ensure people keep from contracting COVID-19 while on Seattle Parks land, and to lessen the numbers of infected people, the City has planned closures of:
- Alki Beach
- Discovery
- Gas Works
- Green Lake
- Golden Gardens
- Lincoln
- Magnuson
- Seward Park
- Cal Anderson
- Carkeek
- Kubota Garden
- Volunteer
- Washington Park Arboretum
- West Seattle Stadium
- Woodland Park
The Mayor’s e-newsletter states that ‘neighborhood parks’ will remain open, although the City will consider closing them or making temporary closures longer if visitors cannot follow the guidelines. Boat launches at Stan Sayres, Magnuson, Don Armeni, and Atlantic St are also going to be closed.
Over the weekend, staff from Seattle Parks & Recreation and Seattle Police Department will be deployed at the parks to encourage social distancing and discourage congregating at the closed parks listed.
