Seattle Office of Emergency Management Offers Education on Earthquakes & Bleeding

Learn about the City response in face of Earthquake emergencies

The Seattle Office of Emergency Management (OEM) offers education and advice about keeping all of us safe.  Right now, the OEM is offering on-line webinars about measures we can all take toward emergency situations.

On Thu, May 27th, from 6p – 7:30p, everyone can attend a webinar on Seattle’s Earthquake Response given by OEM staff.  This webinar will give an overview of our region’s unique earthquake risk, likely impacts, and describe what the local government response to a catastrophic earthquake looks like.  This information will include an overview of citywide response priorities or coordination, and how the city communicates emergency information to the public.  Following the experiences of the pandemic, it is a good time to learn about what preparedness steps we can all take towards safety before an earthquake happens.  Best of all, this webinar will be captioned in many languages including English, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Vietnamese, or Simplified and Traditional Chinese.  No advance registration is needed to attend this webinar on Microsoft Teams, just join the weblink (click here) on May 27th at 6p.

Community organizations can get free training in dealing with life-threatening injuries.

The OEM also is offering Training on the ‘Stop the Bleed’ program, to prepare members of our community on how to recognize and treat life-threatening bleeding.  Tax-exempt 501(c)3 community organizations, located in King County, can apply to received free bleeding control training for their staff, and public access to bleeding control kits.  Through this free training, more people will have the tools and knowledge to save lives.  Watch a video on YouTube (click here,) for an overview of the OEM’s ‘Stop the Bleed’ program.  To learn even more, and apply by June 11th, visit the Seattle OEM application webpage (click here.)
