Over the first two weekends of February, the 1st – 3rd, and the 8th – 10th, the Theatre Department of Seattle Pacific University will be presenting ‘Jane Eyre: The Musical’, in the McKinley Hall Theatre. This presentation of the classic gothic novel, by Charlotte Brontë, will bring to life the struggle of a good woman to preserver over a society determined to squash her will and integrity.
Written by John Caird and composed by Paul Gordon, this production, directed by Candace Vance, showcases talents among the students and staff of Fremont’s fine university. For this year’s show, they’ve chosen to realize a romantic story, about a young woman’s fight for freedom and fulfillment, while struggling with poverty, injustice and betrayal. In the end, Jane faces difficult choices, head-on, deciding between love and doing what she knows to be right, with little help from an ultimately repressive and uncaring society.
