Seattle Reminds Property Owners On Snow & Ice Removal Responsibility

The Seattle Office of Emergency Management is attempting to let property owners, and tenants, know that snow and ice removal from sidewalks is our responsibility, as well as being helpful to those who already struggle with access.

When winter weather brings precipitation and freezing temperatures, we all must go on alert.  We can prepare for snow and ice, in advance, but when the weather falls, it is particularly necessary to take steps to keep ourselves safe – and our neighbors.

Make a plan, and prepare, for Winter Weather in 2020.

The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will take steps to address any expected influx of winter weather.  Find a downloadable brochure (click here) to learn about policies regarding Seattle Winter Weather responses.

In addition, SDOT has teamed with Rooted In Rights to create a video to educate people on the importance of clearing snow and ice from sidewalks, specifically to help those who need clear access.  Watch the YouTube video (click here).

Most importantly, prepare for winter weather in advance.  Think about what you will need to have on hand, in your home and your business, for any winter weather we may experience.  Fremont does not get a lot of cold, snowy and/or ice, but when we do, it is great to be prepared!
