The City of Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) has changes proposed for N 34th St between Fremont Avenue and Stone Way North, and on Tuesday, Janaury 23rd, from 4:30p – 6p, they will share preliminary street design concepts in the Urban Beer Garden at Fremont Brewing.
Last October, SDOT representatives went door-to-door, among local businesses, gathering input to incorporate into citywide modal plans and traffic data. Now, they want to present a Modality Project for the area – pedestrian, cyclist, and vehicular. The proposed design concept can be reviewed, and feedback given, via an on-line survey (click here for the SurveyMonkey.)
SDOT plans to upgrade the existing bike lane, and provide a comfortable and predictable connection to the Burke-Gilman Bike Trail. SDOT has also proposed to maintain freight access along this corridor, which is a major arterial. Unfortunately, this blending of bicycle and freight access did not get good results on N 34th St, west of Fremont Avenue North. Please give your input to create a better plan for this portion of the roadway.
The Mobility Project is intended to improve the movement of people and goods, and input will determine the future of N 34th St. As Fremont becomes denser, with more people trying to move around, it is important to maintain mobility for all.
