“Whether you’re a runner or someone looking to transform your life, inspiration can be found if you have the courage to look within. A film like ‘3100: Run and Become’ is the perfect starting point.” – Billy Mills, 1964 Olympic Gold Medalist, Track & Field
This documentary tells stories of ordinary human beings exhibiting extraordinary endurance, and finding enlightenment, through running. In particular, the people this film follows run incredible distances as a form of medication, and self-transcendence. They transform their lives, and sometimes even our world, through the simple act of running.
The primary focus of ‘3100: Run And Become’ is Ashprihanal Aalto, a Finnish man, who has completed, multiple times, the Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race. The longest certified footrace in the world takes place each year, June – August, in Jamaica, Queens, New York. The 3100 encourages its participants to discover the limits of their capacities then push beyond them.
In addition to Aalto’s story, ‘3100: Run And Become’ shares stories of Shamita, another 3100 participant, and those who live in a culture of heroic, long-distance running – Shaun Martin, a Navajo runner; Gaolo, a San Bushman of the Kalahari; and Gyoman-san, a Monk of Mt. Hiei, Japan. This documentary takes viewers into the heart of these runners, and the inspirations that push them beyond their everyday abilities. The film shows what pushes them, beyond competition or glory.
