Garbage (and food & yard waste, and recycling) collections will be delayed one day due to the Thanksgiving Day Holiday. Those who normally have their collection scheduled for Thursday, will be picked-up on Friday, November 28th, and those in Fremont who normally have their collection on Friday, will have their pick-up on Saturday, November 29th. Be sure to have all your containers out by 7 a.m. the day of your collection to ensure pick-up.
Report a missed garbage, yard waste or recycling collection by calling 206/684-3000 or clicking on ‘Report Missed Collection’ on the Seattle Public Utilities website.
In addition, due to the holiday, the City of Seattle’s only operating Transfer Station – the South Seattle Recycling & Disposal Station in South Park – will be closed on Thursday, November 27th.
Please remember, Seattle residents can place all unwanted food scraps – green bean casserole, aspic, mincemeat pie, turkey bones, celery, yams, potatoes, fruitcake, giblets and soiled paper napkins – in the food & yard waste carts. Food scraps will be made into compost for local gardens and parks. Learn how to prevent excessive kitchen waste at www.seattle.gov/util/reducewaste.
Also note that starting Jan. 1, 2015, food and compostable paper, such as cardboard boxes, napkins and paper towels, will no longer be allowed in Seattle’s garbage.
