June is Fremont Month, and it all starts with art – and the Fremont First Friday Art Walk!  On Friday, June 6th, from 6p – 9p, explore art installations at a variety of venues around the Center of the Universe, and celebrate Fremont Month with art.

The Fremont First Friday website lists off venues to visit during this Art Walk, and all the venues have handouts of the route for June.  Here are where you can find handouts, and great art:

  • At Frame-Up Studios, see original art by Kyler Martz, and meet the artist whose unique style has become iconic, in a very short time, all around Fremont – on signal boxes and Fremont Street Fair posters.  His dubious tattooed women, rugged sailors, seafarers, ships, whales, octopi, and mermaids decorate our world already, and now we have an exhibit of signed, numbered prints – along with Frame-Up’s annual display of vintage Fair posters.
  • At Portage Bay Goods will be Emma SanCartier, of oddFauna, the creator a collection of artwork, prints, and sculptures that have displayed in gallery shows across the country.  Her designer, beastie toys and sculptures, based off her creature illustrations, called OddFauna, will be displayed throughout June at PBG.  Come meet Sancartier and enjoy refreshments, along with the art.
Creatures created by Emma SanCartier, of OddFauna, will be on-display at Portage Bay Goods in June 2015.

  • At Pel’Meni Dumpling Tzar, meet photographer Shawn Nichols and enjoy his inspirational photos.  This Pacific Northwest native uses the natural light here, found objects and/or moments, and the city as a canvas to capture an otherworldly, beautiful and eccentric Seattle.  While at Pel’Meni, you can also refresh yourself with the purchase of delicious dumplings and get $1 off your order with the phrase, ‘make art, not war.’
  • At Fremont Jewelry Design, enjoy iridescent, colorful, dreamlike images created by Jeanie Lewis.  With details and motifs influenced by antique jewelry, textiles, myths and strange creatures, this largely self-taught artist brings bright colors to her paintings and photography.

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy an evening of art, and strolling among the welcoming businesses of Fremont.  The Fremont First Friday Art Walk is not to be missed, and this month it is just too easy to avoid.  See you there!
