June is traditionally Fremont Month and this year we are focused on celebrating the art that gives us expression, release for our emotions and joy in the presentation. On June 9th, Fremont has two ways to experience the art – the first live Art Walk of 2021 and VAM Studios’ Fremont Fringe!
On June 4th from 6:30p – 8:30p, Fremont Fringe will take to the sidewalks, patios and parking lots with music and dance performed at a safe distance and with COVID-protections in place for all. Sara Caplan & Tiffany Bierly will be performing a piece about remembering near the Fremont Bridge. Cellist Jonathan Salman will also be bringing music to the evening. Ricky Gene Powell and other fellow musicians will be performing lively Americana folk music at the Lenin Statue. The Uncommon Cottage will have music from DJ Cassidy Peterson on the porch. Expect to find performances around every corner – and find the latest information on the Facebook page (click here.)
Also on June 4th, from 6p – 9p, explore the first LIVE Fremont Friday Art Walk of 2021. Fremont venues are opening up for small groups to see the art and, in some instances, to meet the artists. Bring your mask and your appreciation for these chances to see the art in person. Featured venues include:
- Down Under Gallery will be blending Art Walk and Fringe with two new shows by Rosie Namara – ‘Flowerful People’ and ‘What Is A Border’. At 7p, hear poet Austin Eudy read some poems written on this show. Throughout the evening, the painter will be on-hand to discuss her works and inspirations, in the garden. Small groups will be able to enter the Gallery and see these abstract works, along with hand-blown glass by Rodman Miller, handcrafted creations from Sarah Weathers of Vibrant Poppy, and international photography by Adrian Laney.
- Frame Up Studios will be celebrating Fremont’s past with an exhibition of Fremont Fair This is the largest and most complete collection, with many of the historic art works available for purchase. Explore the images that have captured this legendary event since its start in 1972, and the artists that have been a part of these festivities for nearly 50 years.
- Fremont Mischief will be open for Art Walk with its collection of crow art, as well as the aesthetic environment full of kinetic, organic and architectural art. Explore the Distillery, or just sit under the tent for a moment’s enjoyment of this oasis by the Canal.
- Portage Bay Goods will continue its virtual Art Walk, backed up with a LIVE version in the store. From 6p – 9p, step inside the Procrastinator’s Gift Shop to see all the inventive, creative items alongside art work by Angella Watterson @angelopedesign This is a great opportunity to reconnect with the colorful, creative art and artists, after a year of quiet, contemplative self-care.
The Fremont First Friday Art Walk and the Fremont Fringe are both aimed at keeping everyone safe from the transmission of COVID-19, and respecting social distancing. This is a great opportunity to safely stroll the Center of the Universe, feasting on live art in all its outrageous forms of fringe and frolic.
