On Friday, June 6th, Fremont Month kicks into full gear with the Fremont Briefcase Relay at 6p, the Fremont First Friday Art Walk from 6p – 9p, and the Fremont Fun Run at 7p. Plenty of activity going on this Friday at the Center of the Universe, during which everyone can get warmed up for the month-long celebration that is ‘June.’
The Briefcase Relay and Fun Run are produced by Pro-Motion Sports, and sponsored by Brooks Sports. Stroll down to Solstice Plaza, behind the J.P. Patches statue, to enjoy the festival atmosphere of these two runs – or run with the crowds. The Briefcase Relay teams dress in costume – running gear from the waist down and business attire from the waist up. Every team carries a briefcase, with five cans of food to be donated to the FamilyWorks food bank. Once the relay race ends, the Fun Run begins with a certified 5K course that ends – as many good things do – at the Fremont Brewing Company beer garden. Consider running, or simply skip the hard stuff and wait for the runners with a glass of Fremont ale.
The First Friday Art Walk offers even more reasons to wander, with venues all over the ‘hood – including a group art show, called ‘Hello!,’ at Portage Bay Goods, and see ‘A Study In Clockwork’ – a collection of watercolors by Braden Duncan – at Fremont Jewelry Design.
This being June, Frame Up Studios has its annual retrospective of Fremont Fair posters, dating back to 1989. In addition, starting at 6p, Kyler Martz – the artist behind the 2014 Fremont Fair poster and the Signal Box Art commissioned by the Fremont Neighborhood Council and Urban ArtWorks – will be at Frame Up to sign posters and meet visitors.
Fremont Month is off to a racing start! Make sure you take a walk around this Friday and let it all get you in the spirit to celebrate art, exercise, beer and Fremont!
