Acting Parks Superintendent Christopher Williams has issued a statement on the shooting that took place on Friday, March 8th at a Seattle Parks facility at North 82nd Street & Densmore Avenue N.
“We are deeply saddened by Friday’s shooting of Associated Recreation Council Executive Director Bill Keller at our Densmore facility.
“We are grateful to the Seattle Police Department for their support and quick work of tracking down and arresting the suspect, Parks employee Carolyn “Zoom” Piksa. We are also grateful to the Seattle Fire Department, which responded to Bill’s 9-1-1 call, and came to assist him.
“In spite of Friday’s incident, I want to tell the public that Seattle Parks and Recreation facilities are safe. This was an isolated incident. We took immediate precautions to ensure the safety of the public and our staff.
“This weekend, our community centers, pools, environmental learning centers and other public buildings have been open – and they are alive with activity. Providing safe, affordable and accessible recreation and learning opportunities for the residents of Seattle is what we do best. We’ve been doing it for 130 years, and we expect to continue doing that for generations to come.”
