Week two, April 14 – 17, 2011, of the Stone Soup Theatre Double (XX) Play Fest continues strong, with plenty to witness, experience and enjoy. This week features a new selection of short works written by female playwrights, directed by female directors and performed by some of Seattle’s finest, underexposed talents. Also this week, check out the outrageous 24-Hour All-Female Play Production marathon, where three playwrights write three plays overnight, and then three directors and 9 actors stage the works.
Just as in week one, plays performed this week – at 8p Thu – Sat, and 2p on Sun – will be adjudicated by two professional writers, and the audience. The plays are:
- What Happens in Verona by Lea Galanter, directed by Amy Sedgwick
- The Belle of Staten Island by Penny Jackson, directed by Renee Cyr
- Hypochondria by Deborah Harbin, directed by Simone Barron
- Landis and the Bear by Catherine Berg, directed by Margie Slovan
- The Wedding Ring by Rebecca Haber, directed by Lenore Bensinger
- Operation Sweet Dreams by Suzanne Bailie, directed by Samantha Sherman
Also, staged readings, and discussion, will take place in the UpStage:
- Managing Fringe by Z. Sharon Glantz, directed by Jennifer Pratt (on Apr 14, 6p)
- Dry Cleaning the Soul by Tammy Ryan, directed by Trina Harris (on Apr 15, 6p)
- Witch Hunt by Trish Cole, directed by Jessica Stepka (on Apr 17, 5p)
- Grief by Lynne McMahon, directed by Amber Rose Cutlip (on Apr 17, 6p)
Finally, on Saturday, April 16th at 10p (after the DownStage program) enjoy the fruits of the 24-hour effort, incorporating the talents of Katherine Karaus, Renee Cyr, Danielle Villegas, Deborah DeGeorge Harbin, Nancy Calos-Nakano, Miryam Gordon, Patricia Bonnell, Erin Ison, Jen Smith Anderson, Melissa Malloy, Telisa Steen and MORE!
To purchase tickets to the festival, call the box office at 206/633-1883 or purchase them at Brown Paper Tickets. Tickets cost $12, for a show at the DownStage, or $15 for both stage shows.
