As part of the rebuild of the North Seattle Transfer Station, Stone Way N and N 34th St will be closed to traffic off and on over the next two weeks.  The construction team will begin installing drainage systems that will require 24-hour closures over multiple days.

  • Starting the week of October 13th, Stone Way will be closed between N 34th and N 35th St, for 24-hours a day up to 5 days.
  • In the week of October 20th, the city sidewalk in front of the new Brooks Sports building, at 3400 Stone Way, will be closed during daytime hours.
  • In the week of October 27th, the north side of N 34th St will be partially closed during daytime hours.
  • Finally, in the week of November 3rd, the sidewalk in front of the Brooks building is scheduled to be restored.

Work areas will be fenced off for public safety, and pedestrian ramps and re-routing signs in place.

This massive inconvenience is done as part of the construction of a new North Transfer Station, a facility that promises to process solid waste more effectively and efficiently to help all of us reach the City’s zero-waste goal.  The new facility was designed with community input, will incorporate features to reduce traffic congestion, noise and odor, and is expected to open in 2016.
