In 2015, the Seattle Police Foundation (SPF) will purchase external body armor carriers that will help to ensure officer health and safety, with new technology that more evenly distributes weight and allows for easier removal of the vest when not on patrol.
In this country an officer is killed in the line of duty every 58 hours. Research shows that no other piece of law enforcement safety equipment has made such a fundamental difference in officer safety than the body armor which has saved the lives of nearly 4,000 U.S. law enforcement officers since its introduction.
For a $100 donation to the Seattle Police Foundation you can help outfit an officer with this life saving equipment. Your support will help these officers protect and build a safer Seattle. Safe communities require partnerships between law enforcement and the citizens – we residents and businesses – that they serve. The Seattle Police Foundation plays an integral role in facilitating these partnerships.
In 2014, the Seattle Police Foundation – thanks to donors – supported programs that included:
- Beds For Kids – a project initiated by officers Ryan Gallagher and Jeremy Wade, providing beds for kids who don’t have one around our region.
- Holiday Luncheons – volunteers serve meals to hard working Seattle Police officers and staff at all five precincts.
- Mounted Patrol Unit – Seattle Police Foundation has raised funds to pay for food and staffing to care for the unit’s horses since 2011
- Leadership Training – through SPF, Seattle Police officers and staff can attend training and special education programs to support department growth
The projects help the Seattle Police Department, and build a stronger community. In 2015, SPF will continue to invest in domestic violence prevention and intervention programs, officer health and safety equipment, sexually exploited youth programming, and officer driven community support programs.
