Susan G. Komen 3-Day Is Coming To Fremont On Sunday!

Decorate the sidewalks in preparation for the 3-Day walkers, coming to Fremont on Sunday, Sep 16th Photo provided by Susan G. Komen 3-Day organization

This Sunday, September 16th, between 8a & Noon, the sidewalks of Fremont may be awash in pink t-shirts and determined striders as the Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk makes its way through the Center of the Universe.

Small, printed notices were taped to structures along the proposed route.  The walkers will be leaving the Ballard Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in the morning (at approximately 8a,) and moving east towards the Elliot Bay Trail Park (W. Galer St & Alaskan Way) by afternoon.

Support can be shown to the walkers – women and men who want to make a personal difference in the fight to end breast cancer – in several ways:

  • display a sign or decorations – think pink!
  • come out and cheer
  • refresh walkers with sprinklers or a squirt from a hose or spray bottle
  • play fun and upbeat music
  • get creative, Fremont!

The organizers of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day strive to leave the route cleaner than when they started, and they ask that if you hand goodies to the walkers, please provide trash receptacles and remove all litter after the parade has passed.

Of the net proceeds raised by the 3-Day, 75% will go to fund national research and large public health outreach programs.  The remaining 25% funds local community and affiliate outreach programs.  Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and is the leading cause of cancer death among women worldwide.

On the 3-Day, the walkers walk for love, for life and for the promise of a world without breast cancer.  Show your support – or at least be prepared for a whole lot of smiling, striding and suitably pink walkers on the sidewalks this Sunday!
