This week, Tableau Foundation announced the recipients of $85,000 in funds on behalf of the employees and owners of the Tableau software company, headquartered in Fremont. Tableau annually distributes money to non-profits in several of the communities in which they have offices. This year those places included Austin, Washington D.C., Palo Alto, London, Dublin, Singapore and Kirkland, with the largest distribution happening right here, in Fremont.
A volunteer committee of Tableau employees vetted and selected the applications from 39 non-profits. They looked at need, as well as organizations in which their employees could get involved as volunteers. Due to the unrestricted nature of the funds (the grants are not tied to any specific project or outcome) the list of recipients did not identify specific projects.
The 2016 recipients are:
- B.F. Day Elementary School
- Bastyr Center for Natural Health
- City Fruit
- FamilyWorks
- Fremont Abbey Arts Center
- Literacy Source
- Puget Soundkeeper Alliance
- The Seattle Public Library Foundation
- Friends of the Troll’s Knoll
- Urban Sparks
- Wallingford Boys & Girls Club
- Wallingford Community Senior Center
This annual award started in the summer of 2015. According to Ashley Monson, Social Impact Coordinator for the Tableau Foundation, in 2017 the application process will begin in spring rather than summer, to make it easier for the organizations to meet deadlines and share information.
