Request For Proposals for Solstice Parade McKay Grants

This week the Fremont Arts Council (FAC) sent out a Request for Proposals (RFP,) seeking applications from artists building ensembles or floats for the 24th FAC Solstice Parade, or installations for the Gas Works Park gathering afterwards. McKay grants of up to $1,000 will be given out from a total pool of $4,500, with the deadline for submissions at 5p on Monday, March 26th.

Demolition To Start On The Beleaguered Thunderbird Motel

On Friday, February 24th, Catholic Housing Services (CHS) will move closer to building a 71-unit affordable housing building. Abatement work has been underway, and should finish by the 24th. Once completed, it will be safe for contractors to demolish the structure of the once infamous Thunderbird Motel.

Contest For Best ‘Burma Shave’ Style Signs For Not A Number

As pedestrians may have noticed, the wacky folk at Not A Number Cards & Gifts have put out a series of ‘Burma Shave’ style signs along the sidewalk of North 35th Street to attract attention to the store’s new location. In an effort to keep the signs fresh and interesting, the store is hosting a a slogan contest. The top three slogan submissions (as judged by the decidedly off-beat, always original Not A Number crew) will receive gift certificates for $5, $10 or $15 to purchase amazing items from Not A Number.

Send A Live Shakespeare Love Sonnet To Your Valentine!

Sound Theatre Company and GreenStage have joined forces to offer ‘Valentine Sonnets’ delivered directly to your beloved, between February 10th – 14th. For a donation that will support live theatre, an actor in Elizabethan costume will perform one of William Shakespeare’s immortal, romantic love sonnets to order for your special sweetie.

A Hardcore February Fremont First Friday Art Walk

Walking Fremont on a February evening, for the First Friday Art Walk on February 3rd from 6p – 9p, separates the art warriors from the weather wimps. Those tough enough – and willing to face potential rain and guaranteed dark to see art – will have plenty to see and explore this month.
