Seattle Public Utilities Issues Updates on Garbage Pick-Up, Storm Drains and Pipes

Current ice and snow conditions have been fairly mild in Fremont, compared to the rest of Seattle, and King County. Seattle Public Utilities still plans regular garbage collection during the storm, and issued suggestions about storm drains and pipes. Also, information from the City of Seattle Office of Emergency Management, and tips on how to ‘Take Winter By Storm,’ can be found on www.takewinterbystorm.org. A list of breaking news notices can be seen on-line. Also a list of school closures can be referenced on-line.

Public Input Meetings On Improving Seattle Public Library Services

The Seattle Public Library (SPL) system will host three community meetings in January, 2012, on improving library services. The gatherings will focus on options for enhancing the collection of books and materials, increasing operating hours, upgrading computers and on-line services, and improving building maintenance. Strategies for stabilizing funding for the library system will also be reviewed.

The three community meetings will be held around the city, with the closest to Fremont being the only weekday evening meeting at the Ballard Branch Library, on Wednesday, January 18th, from 6p – 8p. Saturday meetings will be held on January 7th, from 10a – Noon, at the Central Library, and on January 14th, from Noon – 2p, at the Beacon Hill Branch Library.

SPU Issues Green Holiday Recycling Tips

For Seattlites concerned about the extra volume of recycling created by holiday activities, Seattle Public Utilities issued the reminder that residents can always recycle as much as they want at no extra charge. Simply put additional recyclables in sturdy bins or boxes next to the recycling receptacle on collection day.

Center For Wooden Boats Begins Clean Up On North Lake Union Site

This month the Center for Wooden Boats (CWB) took a huge leap forward in building a facility for the interactive maritime museum on North Lake Union. The signing of an interim lease with King County METRO Transit Division for a property near Gasworks Park will bring the North Lake Union Community Wharf within sight come spring 2012.

Fremont Chamber Hosts ‘Breakfast of Shameless Self-Promotion’

On Wednesday, November 16th, from 8a – 9:30a, the Fremont Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual ‘Breakfast of Shameless Self-Promotion.’ This popular gathering allows everyone – business owners, philanthropists, event organizers, the underemployed, and/or a City of Seattle Mayor – to share information about their passion with others from our community.

National Television/Radio Emergency Alert on November 9th

Please help spread the word that on Wednesday, November 9th at 11a (2p E.S.T.) a nationwide test of the emergency alert system (EAS) will be conducted. More than 20,000 television and radio broadcast stations across the United States will participate in this first-ever, nationwide, 30-second test.
