As the Fremont Fair frenzy nears – coming June 18th & 19th – and festival producers, Bold Hat Productions recently announced the schedule of performers for the four entertainment stages. Also, they’ve booked an eclectic collection of other features for this year’s festival – some new and others tried-and-true.
The Rotary Club of Fremont members continue to sell raffle tickets to raise money for their many wonderful projects. For $30, take a chance to win a cruise to Alaska (makes a great gift!,) plus $600 cash. The raffle ticket drawing will be held Tuesday, June 14th at their weekly meeting. On Thursday, June 16th, from 5:30p – 7:30p, the Fremont Rotary will hold a benefit to eradicate malaria, at Fremont Studios. Tickets cost $20 per person (cash or check only,) with 100% of the tax-deductible donation going to buy mosquito nets for Zambia.
Head’s up! A special farewell party is planned for Wednesday, May 25th at 6pm at Norm’s Eatery & Ale House, to say good-bye to three beloved friends, and fellow Fremont employees.
Seattle Parks and Recreation will host a final community meeting on renovation of the Ross Play Area on Monday, May 23, 2011 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at the Ross Shelterhouse (4320 4th Ave. NW.)
For the ladies, Fremont has two very special opportunities coming up… On Saturday, May 21st, the 2nd annual Seattle Mom Prom will take place at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center. On Saturday, June 4th, Bellefleur will host a Fresh Foundations Seminar & Fashion Show.
Fremonster and film director Dan McComb has been collecting interviews and information this spring on the scene-stealing opening act of the Solstice Parade – the painted cyclists. His film, titled ‘Beyond Naked’, now has a campaign running on Kickstarter to solicit donations to help complete what promises to be a lighthearted, and well-researched, look at the history, dilemmas and fascination naked bicyclists have incited.
This Saturday, May 21st, two work parties will take place in Fremont – near in location but very different in what they need doing. The Troll’s Knoll and History House need warm bodies, and willing hands, to get bea-u-ti-ful for summer!
On Wednesday, May 18th, between 5p – 10p, the Red Door will host ‘Pints for Pipes,’ an effort to raise money for instruments and equipment to outfit a Seattle Police Pipes & Drum Band.
On Saturday, May 14th, from Noon – 6p, Gas Works Park will be overrun by marching brass, and Honk! Fest West. The celebration of brass bands, drum corps, and samba lines sets off to stroll the grassy meadows of Gas Works, with entertainment for all ages, and all for free!
On Saturday, May 14th, starting at Noon, volunteers are needed to help with the pre-parade, as the Fremont Arts Council (FAC) shifts float bodies from winter storage to the art studio. On Tuesday, May 17th, visit the Artists’ Reception, at the Fremont Abbey at 7p, to see the floats for the 2011 Solstice Parade. And, on May 21st, attend the Grand Opening of the Solstice Parade build, at the Powerhouse (3940 Fremont Avenue North) at Noon.
