Want to have a visible impact on the life of a child, after giving only a few hours a week? B.F. Day Elementary School needs volunteers to meet with elementary students twice a week to give basic assistance with writing, math, and reading. After school tutoring requires no real special skills, beyond a willingness to help and the time to give. After school sessions are on Tuesdays & Thursdays, October 18th to April 5th (holidays off!) from 3p – 4:15p.
This weekend has plenty going on, but you will truly miss out if you don’t at least stop by Fremont Oktoberfest on Friday, Saturday and/or Sunday, September 23rd – 25th. The fun begins Friday at 5p, and extends to Sunday at 6p – with plenty going on, in addition to serving up great beer!
A painting party of the Aurora Bridge Mural (a.k.a. Bridge Way Mural) has been planned for this Saturday, September 24th, from 10a – 2p. After a few weeks of hard work by dedicated volunteers, not much remains to be done to repair the mural – and then volunteers can work on restoring it.
The Fremont Arts Council will host their 11th Luminata Lantern Parade, to celebrate the autumnal equinox, on Thursday September 22nd, starting at 7p at Green Lake.
Going on now, the Fremont Arts Council and Peter Toms are offering public workshops on the art of lantern making at the Powerhouse, at 3940 Fremont Avenue North. Workshops will take place Wednesday and Thursday, September 14th & 15th, from 6p – 9p, on Sunday, September 18th from Noon to 6p, and Tuesday and Wednesday, September 19th – 21st from 6p – 9p.
On September 3rd, History House sent out word that a new batch of personalized messages have been added to the brick work at the Late For The Interurban statue, by Kevin Pettelle, engraved on-site, and the new pavers “look terrific!”
Labor Day weekend might turn thoughts to Bumbershoot or Burning Man, but this year, seriously, think about how it is the First Friday of the month, on September 2nd, and from 6p – 9p it will be the Fremont Art Walk!
Well junior supernatural angst fans (and the adults who love them) the rescheduled screening of the movie ‘Twilight’ casually planned for Saturday, August 20th, 2011 at the Fremont Outdoor Movies has been officially cancelled.
On Saturday, August 20th, starting at 7:00p, Ignite Seattle 15 invites audience members to fill the Outdoor Cinema lot for a series of five-minute talks meant to enlighten, educate and entertain. The talks come accompanied by projected slide images that automatically change every 15 seconds. With swift pacing, varied topics and engaging speakers, the evening promises to live up to the tagline – ‘Enlighten Us, But Make It Quick.’ Tickets, sold at the gates, cost $5, and the gathering will start at 8p.
