Lake Union Ferry Launched, from UW to South Lake Union

The Seattle Ferry Service has launched ferry service across Lake Union, connecting the University of Washington (at Agua Verde) to South Lake Union (at Lake Union Park.) For those who commute to Downtown Seattle – or want to connect with the S.L.U.T. (South Lake Union Trolly) – the Seattle Mini-Ferry could provide another transportation option.

Fremont Siphon Sewer Project Moves Forward

After investigating a range of alternatives, King County has set in place a plan to replace the existing Fremont Siphon – a critical wastewater conveyance line – with a new crossing under the Lake Washington Ship Canal. Two microtunnels will be built just west of the existing siphon, under the canal, and connected to the North Interceptor conveyance pipelines on the north and south sides.

King County To Perform Maintenance Work On The Fremont Siphon

Beginning the week of July 18th, as part of the Fremont Siphon Sewer Project, crews from King County will do maintenance work on the both the Queen Anne and Fremont access points. In Fremont, intermittent work will occur near 2nd Avenue NW and NW Canal Street, with heavy equipment, noise, dust and odor expected.

Nighttime/Overnight Asphalt Removal on N 34th Street July 11 & 12

This summer, the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will repave North 34th Street from Fremont Avenue North to Stone Way North. On the nights of Monday, July 11th and Tuesday, July 12th, crews will remove the existing top layer of asphalt from the street with a pavement grinding machine. They will work on the north side of the street on July 11th, and the south side on July 12th, according to the current schedule.

Seattle’s North Recycling and Disposal Station will be closed July 4

On Monday, July 4th, the North Seattle Transfer Station – located on North 35th Street east of Stone Way – will be closed for all services. The South Seattle Recycling & Disposal Station, in the South Park neighborhood, will be open regular business hours (from 8a – 5:30p,) however. Seattle garbage, food & yard waste, and recycling collections will be on normal schedule on Monday, July 4th, a Federal holiday.

Last Day to Register On-Line for Fun Run

Midnight on Thursday, June 9th is the deadline for on-line registration for runners (or walkers) in the 2011 Fremont Fun Run 5K. Pre-registration, on-line, costs only $30. Registration will be possible the night of the race – starting at 4:30p on Friday, June 10th – but at a cost of $40 per runner.
