Fremont Arts Council COW Meeting Postponed One Week

Due to a conflict with Valentine’s Day, the Fremont Arts Council leadership decided to postpone the monthly meeting of the Committee Of The Whole for one week. Usually held on the second Tuesday of each month, at the Powerhouse (3940 Fremont Ave N) starting at 7:10pm-ish, this month the meeting will take place – same place and time – on Tuesday, February 21st.

New Members Sought for City Of Seattle Landmarks Preservation Board

Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn invites residents to apply for two of the at-large positions being vacated on the Landmarks Preservation Board. The 12-member Board makes recommendations to the Seattle City Council on landmark designations, and reviews proposed physical alterations to landmarked properties. The deadline to submit an application for a position on the Board is February 28, 2012.

Fremont Chamber Hosts Its Annual ‘Events Meeting’ on January 18th

On Wednesday, January 18th, at 8a, at the Lake Washington Rowing Club, the Fremont Chamber of Commerce will host its annual gathering for event organizers and community members. Attendees can hear plans about this year’s activities, learn the promotional opportunities available to area businesses, raise concerns about past experiences, suggest improvements, and get involved on the ground level as a volunteer.

Fremont Historical Plaque Tour Now On-Line

Celebrate the history of Fremont – history of the settlement of the area in the late 1800s – through a series of plaques to be installed around the neighborhood. The first four have been installed, with more to come in 2012 to form a tour of the area, and information on the project can now be at www.fremonthistorytour.org.

Tickets Available For A Limited Time For The FAC Winter Feast

For the first time in many years, the Fremont Arts Council (FAC) will sell tickets to their singular Winter Solstice Feast celebration. Traditionally only volunteers who participated in creating this evening of food, music and art were allowed to attend. This year a very limited number of tickets have been made available for purchased – in advance only – through Brown Paper Tickets.

Volunteers Sought for B.F. Day After School Tutoring Program

Every school year students at B.F. Day Elementary School (many of who come from new immigrant families where English is not spoken at home) need homework assistance, and they can get it from area volunteers. Peak Park Community Clean Up On Oct. 30th

This Sunday, October 30th, from 10a – 1p, the Friends of Fremont Peak Park will hold one of their popular work parties. Mulching and planting, as well as a little trimming, are planned. Also, coffee, snacks and any other goodies volunteers wish to bring along. Please RSVP in advance – at info@FremontPeakPark.org – so they will have tools and space for you to work.
