On Friday, May 2nd, from 6p – 9p, get out and find art in its many guises. With the return of spring, and warmer spring weather, this is an ideal time to get out and discover the artists and venues of the Fremont First Friday Art Walk. With a vivid and diverse collection of art on display all over the ‘hood, even if showers fall, the Art Walk promises a bright evening.
This month, the FFF will provide participants a pleasurable walk through many venues. One dependable participating venue is Frame-Up Studios, which offers a display of the one-of-a-kind art frames of Amber Rothrock. A visionary artist, Rothrock transforms daily objects into art or mirror frames. Frame-Up will follow this showcase, in June, with its annual Fremont Fair Poster Retrospective and, in July, with commemorative prints and photographs of the iconic Smith Tower, now celebrating its 100th anniversary.
Also this month, enjoy the mandalas of Nancy Leith at Art F/X Gallery. Leith creates these fabric mandalas using new and vintage fabric, and writes, “my hope is that a particular mandala will remind the viewer of a part of themselves and it will make their ‘heart soar’ as making them does mine.’
Don’t miss, while out, the irreverent shenanigans always on-hand at Portage Bay Goods – and the creative illustrations of Derek Sullivan. From the esoteric to the ordinary, Sullivan creates signature pieces that celebrate the distinct culture and beauty of our region.
The Fremont First Friday Art Walk offers another great reason to go for a spring stroll, and the art speaks for itself. Before heading out, take a look at the FFF website for more venues and artists participating on May 2nd!
