This Friday, October 7th, from 6p – 9p, the Fremont Art Walk welcomes everyone to stroll our venues and view the art from a diverse selection of artists, selected by a diverse collection of curators. The venues around Fremont not only host visitors each First Friday, but they each select their own artists. This month, the venues include:
- Portage Bay Goods, featuring the illustrations by Rebecca Rothman, inspired by Edward Gorey, Maurice Sendak and Beatrix Potter. Her happy place exists in the cozy space between creepy and quaint, and a belief that tiny acts of kindness can change the world. PBG welcomes back the art alum, showing off adorable and scary-not-scary creatures for the month of October.
- Pel’meni Dumpling Tzar celebrates two artists – Asher Bowers and Dee Thurn. Bowers, a tattoo artist currently working at Hidden Hand, has trained in traditional American and traditional Japanese tattoo art. His work reflects the influences of eastern mysticism, esoteric practices, and his pleasure in long beach walks and pug snuggles. Thurn, from Kansas City, mashes up both iconic and obscure pop culture references, deliberately combining subjects that speak to very different fan bases. His work explores textures, done mainly in graphite and acrylics. While viewing the work of both Thurn and Bowers, enjoy a snack of dumplings, and get $1 off your order by using the phrase, ‘Make Art, Not War.’
- Art F/X displays ‘The Art of Silk Painting’ by Shun Lee, an award-winning textile designer. Lee will show how silk can be used as a canvas to create beautiful prints full of bright colors and teasing imagery. As she says, “I hope you will enjoy seeing my art on silk, and the art works will give you pleasure and a joyful experience.”
- West Of Lenin welcomes ‘The Art of Collaboration’, an installation by Jessica Dodge. Having worked with Bret Fetzer on sets for his plays, and combining her paintings with his creative paraphrasing of the Greek myths for a collection of stories, Dodge has now done illustrations for two of his darkling fairy tales. At WofL, see the illustrated prints, shown for the first-time as a purely visual experience, shorn of text.
For more venues, and more artists, check the list of participating places on the Fremont First Friday Art Walk website. Remember, the Art Walk is always FREE and a great experience for everyone, young and old, interested in expanding their mind and soul to all kinds and expressions of art.
Hope to see you out there!
