As the Fremont Fair frenzy nears – coming June 18th & 19th – and festival producers, Bold Hat Productions recently announced the schedule of performers for the four entertainment stages. Also, they’ve booked an eclectic collection of other features for this year’s festival – some new and others tried-and-true.
The bands booked to play the 2011 Fair vary widely, but a heavy emphasis has been given to quality Northwest performers. Among them will be Picoso, Altered States of Funk, Marmalade, Luc & The Lovingtons, Dub Lounge International, Haiku-Chi, Polyrhythmics, Thaddillac and Acorn Project.
In addition, the Seattle Storm Dance Troupe will perform. On Sunday, at 10:30a, take part in a special Hatha yoga session. For Father’s Day, enjoy a grilling competition sponsored by PCC Natural Markets. Also look for Tubaluba, a roving, second-line brass band, performing on Sunday.
Returning this year, the Fremont Abbey Arts Center has organized a performance stage, and activities led by their volunteers. The performers on the Fremont Abbey stage include Andrew Vait, The Gloria Darlings, and Hannalee, plus performances by Fremont Music School.
New this year, along the shores of the Lake Union Ship Canal, will be a wine garden and an entirely acoustic stage. This area will feature Bucket of Honey, Danny Godinez, Kimo Muraki, and Camille Bloom.
On Sunday, as part of the emphasis on Dogs & Dads (not necessarily in that order) everyone can bring their canine best friends to the fairgrounds for a parade starting at 2:30p. For those offended by the Solstice Parade pre-event, please be advised that some of the pups in this procession may be, well, unclothed.
Both days, as always, visit the Burke Building parking lot on N. 35th St. to see the Seattle Art Car Blowout with approximately 70 cars, many visiting from across the U.S. and Canada.
The Fair also offers a shopping bonanza, with more than 300 vendors selling a wide-variety of hand-made crafts, original art, whimsical creations and/or world imports.
Entry to the Fair remains free, and open-to-the-public. On Saturday, visit from 10a to 8p, with the Red Hook Mainstage (and beer garden) scheduled to stay open this year until 10p. On Sunday, Fair hours go from 11a – 6p. Also, for your information, Fair load-in begins on Friday, June 17th, at 1p starting at 1st Avenue NW and moving eastward.
