The Fremont Sunday Market, which is on a temporary weekly permit, managed to satisfy the health and safety standards of the City of Seattle and Public Health of King County/Seattle during its re-opening last weekend – and it will return this Sunday!
After a six-month hiatus, the Market surged back with approximately 37 vendors and just enough customers to make the longest wait time 7 minutes. Vendors reported that sales exceeded their expectations, and the neighborhood felt more like normal than it has in…well, six months!
Northwest Marketplaces, which produces the Fremont Market, will keep making adjustments and tweaks to increase the safety to vendors, staff and customers – as well as making shopping easier and more fun. The number of vendors is expected to increase, slightly, although non-member businesses are not going to be allowed to vend through the end of 2020. The member vendors will be curated, due to the occupancy limits, and to keep a mix of products, services and opportunities.
The City and Public Health will be on-hand at the Market every week, monitoring the adherence to COVID-19 prevention requirements. Vendors are under strict rules and guidance that must be followed, and customers are asked to be just as careful, to keep everyone safe and to satisfy the monitors. Please wear a face covering, use hand sanitizer before touching anything (and after,) keep your distance, and line up at the entrance – at Phinney Ave N and N 34th St (near Theo Chocolate and The Dinos.) Please remember that public safety is everyone’s personal responsibility.
For those who really want to see the Fremont Market return and succeed, volunteers are needed to help vendors meet the stricter safety measures. Meet the people behind the Market, and lend a hand on this Fremont institution – soon to celebrate its 30th Season (coming on September 20th!) Volunteer shifts are Full Day (8 hours,) or Half Day (9a to 1p, or Noon to 4p.)
