On Saturday, November 12th, and Sunday, November 13th, NalandaWest will host three very different, yet very enlightening, programs worth checking out!

  • From 9a – 5:40p on Saturday, enter ‘The Mind Of The Artist’, where five local artists will share their individual work, motivations, process and the role mindfulness and intention play in their creative process.  Bruce Morser, Patrick Johnson, Carolyn Law, Karen Nelson and Alex LaVilla will perform and talk on, apart from their artistic tools, what mind tools they use to create from a place of authenticity.  Attend mini-workshops, and discuss the needs that drive their creativity, from self-expression to a desire to benefit others.  Attendees can register for either the morning (9a – Noon) or afternoon (1:30p – 5:30p) sessions, or choose to immerse themselves in the entire day in ‘The Mind Of The Artist.’  Find a full day schedule, and information on registration fees (as well as scholarships,) on the NalandaWest website.
  • From 10:45a – Noon on Sunday, take part in ‘Conversations on Buddhist Topics’ following the morning meditation starting at 10a.  This free, drop-in discussion will explore the Buddhist teachings of the Four Truths, the Two Truths and No Truth, and examine the relationship between these philosophical views.  The program will have two parts, with the first being a conversation between moderator Stuart Horn, the Nalandabodhi Director of Study, and Mitra Karl Brunnholzl, teacher, physician and prolific author of volumes on Indian and Tibetan Buddhism.  The second part will allow for questions and discussion between Brunnholzl and attendees.

  • From 2p – 4p on Sunday NalandaWest and the Compassionate Action Network have invited David Melman, LMP, BSCI, to lead ‘Compassion For Your Body’, a series of meditations and gentle somatic/movement journeys.  In these challenging times it is essential to embrace our own bodies with care and compassionate action.  Central to the challenges is disconnection from our true selves and the physical vessel that carries us through our precious human life.  Whether you are on a healing journey or simply seeking to enrich your human experience, Melman will help provide vital information and practice in a safe, supportive environment.  Register ($20 general/$15 seniors & students/$10 scholarship donation) and find more information on the NalandaWest website.

This weekend, specifically November 13th, is World Kindness Day.  These programs are geared towards advancing our knowledge and kindness towards one another and ourselves.  On Sunday, enjoy the Nalandabodhi Sangha Day lunch between programs, or stay after the ‘Body’ meditations for tea, snacks and good conversation, to promote World Kindness.  Find more information about these programs and all that NalandaWest has to offer, on the NalandaWest.org website.
