Throwback Thursday – A Look At The Art, And The Artist

In the North Seattle Press newspaper, from May 18th, 1988, they ran a photo on the cover, by publisher Terry Denton.  It was of an event held to mark the 10th Anniversary of the installation of the ‘People Waiting for the Interurban’ statue, and featured the artist, Rich Beyer.

The Fremont community celebrated improvements and upgrades to Rich Beyer’s iconic sculpture.

The photo also contains Jim Daly, of Daly’s Paints and President of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce (holding the microphone,) and Seattle City Council President Sam Smith (seated.)  The artist created the ‘People Waiting…’ sculpture without a commission, to match improvements offered by the City as part of a street upgrade.  This 10th Anniversary celebration was one of many efforts by the Fremont community to thank Beyer’s for his significant, and generous, contribution.
