At Book Larder, the community cookbook store in Upper Fremont, those looking to improve their food and entertaining skills can often find informative, and free, classes and author talks. While Book Larder often slows down their event schedule in the summer, as they prepare for a busy fall season full of new book releases, they are offering several great opportunities to learn new skills this month.
Next week, check out two free opportunities to meet authors and hear their tips on:
- ‘Modern Potluck’ on August 10th at 6:30p – This author talk with Kristin Donnelly will discuss her guide for those attending gatherings, with Instagram-worthy photos of dishes packed with exciting, bold flavors. With 100 make-ahead recipes, this book can provide ideas for crowds, navigating carnivore, gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan preferences gracefully. Donnelly also can help with ideas on how to pack foods to travel, to provide abundant, delicious meals to share with family and friends. Attend the talk and pick up tips about how to be a hero at your next gathering – and enjoy a sample treat from the book. RSVP to attend this free talk through the Book Larder website.
- ‘Persian Cooking Made Simple’ on August 12th at 6:30p – Author and master chef Najmieh Batmanglij will talk about her book, ‘Joon: Persian Cooking Made Simple,’ and talk about Persian cuisine. Here Batmanglij distills one of the world’s oldest and most influential cuisines to capture its unique flavors in recipes adapted to suit our busy lives. She has simplified 75 of her favorite dishes and shows how, with the right ingredients and a few basic tools and techniques, authentic Persian food can easily be prepared at home. An RSVP reserves a seat, and free author talks fill on a first come, first served basis.
Book Larder hosts a dozen or more events each month, teaching skills and sharing tips. Visit the Book Larder website to find out about more classes and talks upcoming, some free and some have a cost, and remember to RSVP soon because many Book Larder events do fill-up and sell out!
