This weekend, November 7th & 8th, enjoy two one-day classes offer introductions on two different aspects of music and performance, all at Dusty Strings.
On Saturday, November 7th, from 10:30a – 12:30p, Cathy Madden will give an Introduction to the Alexander Technique, a way for performers to adjust something they are doing that is causing pain or discomfort, or to get un-stuck technically. The Alexander Technique works for musicians, singers, actors, dancers, and speakers, and its hallmarks are creativity, spontaneity, and adaptability. Madden, a principal lecturer at the UW School of Drama, teaches the Alexander Technique to students of all levels and abilities. Those interested in learning this important performance technique can do so at Dusty Strings this weekend, for only $35 per student.
On Sunday, November 8th, from 2:15p – 4:15p, Bretton Dimick will be giving an Introduction to Celtic Fiddle Styles. Beginner to intermediate level players, able to tune their fiddle and learn by ear, can come explore the many dynamic and evolving ways of playing tunes in traditional ‘Celtic’ styles. Whether you ‘roll’ or ‘cut’, moving between Irish and Scottish styles, or their related American counterparts, can be a fun new challenge. Learn new tunes, and apply the traditional ornamentation, variation and improvisation of Irish and Scottish styles. For $35, come pick up either more about Celtic Fiddle, or start learning this whole new, yet traditional, style.
