Upcoming Closures of SR99/Aurora Avenue South Of Fremont

Routine closures of SR99/Aurora Avenue have begun, largely due to the construction of a tunnel to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct.  While happening south of Fremont, these closures could significantly impact traffic here well beyond simply disrupting the traffic patterns of Fremont drivers.

Expect to see some backups, as more traffic crosses the Fremont Bridge, yet potentially lower traffic numbers as drivers use I-5 to avoid the entire area.

Today, July 28th, the northbound lanes of SR-99 will be closed from 5:30p – 8p, from S. Royal Brougham Way through the Battery Street Tunnel, due to the Torchlight Parade.

However, the northbound lanes from the West Seattle Bridge to S. Royal Brougham Way remain closed until 5a on Monday, July 30th.

Southbound lanes from the Battery Street Tunnel to the West Seattle Bridge will be closed from 9p – 5a many Sundays through Thursdays through the fall, dependent on the weather.

Sunday, July 29th through Thursday, August 2nd – southbound SR99/Alaskan Way Viaduct will be closed nightly from 9p – 5a from the Battery Street Tunnel to the West Seattle Bridge (reopening at 5a on Friday, August 3rd.)

Sunday, August 5th – southbound SR99/Alaskan Way Viaduct will be closed from 9p – 5a (Monday, August 6th) from the Battery Street Tunnel to the West Seattle Bridge

Wednesday, August 8th and Thursday, August 9th – southbound SR99/Alaskan Way Viaduct will be closed from 9p – 5a from the Battery Street Tunnel to the West Seattle Bridge (will reopen on Thursday, August 9th and Friday, August 10th, at 5a.)
