Literacy Source will benefit from a collection of small, upcoming gatherings at local establishments. Consider attending one, or all, and giving to help educate and raise up adult learners who have taken steps to improve their literacy, and their lives.
A portion of beverage sales at each of the following events will be given to Literacy Source:
- May 13th – Fremont Abbey Arts Center will host its monthly ‘The Round’, with live music, poetry and visual arts from 8p – 10:30p
- May 22nd – Bad Jimmy’s Brewing Company from 6p – to close
- June 12th – Reuben’s Brews from 6p – to close
- June 10th – Fremont Abbey Arts Center monthly ‘The Round’ once again gives to support literacy, from 8p – 10:30p
The Literacy Source mission is to build a literate community and promote self-sufficiency by providing instruction to adults in English literacy and basic life skills. Currently, one in every six adults in Washington State lacks the basic skills needed to hold a livable wage job. Low literacy is estimated to cost the U.S. more than $225 billion annually in non-productivity in the workforce and loss of tax revenue due to unemployment. A mother’s reading skill is the greatest determinant of her children’s future academic success, outweighing all other factors, including neighborhood and family income.
Through its supporters, Literacy Source is able to provide the services that are clearly in high demand in our community, and help those looking to change their path – and that of their family – for the better.
