At the bend of NW 36th St & Leary Way, at NW 2nd Avenue, the Ship Canal Water Quality Project continues construction on the elongated storage tank being built beneath Fremont, from Ballard to Wallingford.  This tank will hold storm water run-off, to keep it from entering the Ship Canal and polluting it with overflow sewage.

Currently, excavation is going on at the Fremont site, with a secant pile wall being built to shore up the underground construction.  The work is being done by heavy equipment and drill.  This work will continue through late December, on weekdays and Saturdays.  A pump and by-pass system will be running 24/7 to re-route existing drainage, powered by a generator, again through the end of the year.

In Spring of 2021, a new round of temporary art work will be installed at the Ship Canal Water Quality work sites.  The Wallingford site, on Interlake Ave & N 35th St, will have art by Janelle Abbott, created from used t-shirts donated by the community.  Click here for the .pdf about how to contribute your own garments.

Excavation is going on at both the Wallingford and the Queen Anne sites.  The Wallingford site will have traffic adjustments made to protect the public and the construction workers, during well installation at the site at N 35th St & Interlake Ave.  The traffic changes are expected to be of short duration.  At the Queen Anne site, at the West Ewing Mini-Park , excavation is just beginning with building of another secant pile wall.  This work requires the closure of the mini-park parking lot, and will also demand a localized detour of the Ship Canal bike trail through Summer of 2022.
