Something alive, like a plant, is a great way to show love this Valentine’s Day 2021, and getting your fingers dirty will make anyone feel more alive and in touch with our most basic selves. Urban Earth Nursery has plenty of ways we can all get back to nature, inside or outside, and administer a great COVID-19 lockdown fatigue remedy.
Many people have found a call to self-sufficiency, and seeds are flying off shelves everywhere. Our small, neighborhood nursery still has a great selection of Renee’s Garden Seeds, and a shipment of Territorial Seed Co products are arriving soon. Visit UrbanEarthNursery.com to find vegetable, herb and flower seeds, plus grass seeds that produces a product good for kitty cats and growing plants that attract pollinators.
Already Urban Earth has in a small selection of herb starts, and as temperatures warm up, in a week or two, they’ll get in more edible plant starts. Check the Urban Earth Facebook page for updates (click here.) The current selection of spring blooming bulbs, flowering trees, annuals and long-blooming perennials will make you smile – while adding color to any urban garden. Check out:
- Giant Crocus ‘Striped Beauty’
- Cathedral Gem Sausage Vine (Holboellia Coriacea)
- Dutch Iris ‘Lion King’ (Iris Hollandica)
- Felix Magnolia
- Ground Orchid ‘Yokohama’ (Bletilla)
- Weeping Extraordinaire Double Flowering Cherry (Prunus x ‘Extrazam’)
Of course, the best way to brighten up your lockdown space (and provide much needed oxygen) is with indoor plants and Urban Earth just received in a new shipment of lovely, easy-to-tend house plants. Whether you are adding to your collection or becoming a first-time plant parent, their plant nerds can help identify the right plant for your home, office or both.
While shopping Urban Earth, you might consider giving to the Plant Positivity Fund. In February, every dollar donated goes to Nurturing Roots Farm, founded in 2016 by Nyema Clark. This urban farm and community program promotes self-sufficiency, food empowerment, social justice, and education. Since its founding, Nurturing Roots has brought together a community through volunteer activities, events, and partnerships with local restaurants.
