This week, starting February 22nd, Vif Wine|Coffee has announced their ‘Wine Of The Week’ is the 2018 Akutain Rioja Alta D.O.C. for $23 a bottle.
This charming, earthy wine from the Rioja Alta region of Spain reveals a spritz when the bottle is first opened, that dissipates quickly so the folks at Vif say, “Enjoy it!” No oak is used in the winemaking process of this vineyard located near the River Tiron, at the foot of the Sierra Cantabria mountain range. Fermented in fiberglass vats, Akutain uses a Tempranillo grape with a splash of Garnacha.
