Volunteers & Donations Requested At Our Local FamilyWorks Food Bank

Two of our local food banks are operated by FamilyWorks which has a new Executive Director – Marcia Wright-Soika – who has come on-board to help lead this important, local non-profit as we all face one of the most challenging times for our city, nation and world.

Even with the change in leadership, FamilyWorks remains dedicated to giving our most vulnerable neighbors safe access to nutritious options.  Currently the Family Resource Center is closed, to protect everyone from transmission of COVID-19, but the FamilyWorks staff and volunteers are working hard to maintain personal connections with clients in this difficult time.

However, right now, FamilyWorks could really use the help of a few more volunteers looking to help in this important mission.  The pool of volunteers has recently gotten a little shallow, with shifts available Tuesdays through Fridays.  Positions are available from a physical level to sitting at the check-in table.  Safety precautions against COVID-19 are being taken very seriously at FamilyWorks, with volunteers being kept at safe social distances, and masks and gloves available to everyone.

Please learn more about volunteering and shifts available on the FamilyWorksSeattle.org website (click here,) and consider asking healthy friends and family to join in as well!

For those unable to give of their time, FamilyWorks needs donations of non-perishable and fresh food.  Two of FamilyWorks’ largest food partners were temporarily suspended in July due to a positive COVID test and fridge/freezer malfunctions off-site, but donations came pouring in after a request on the FamilyWorks Facebook page.  Yet, it may not be enough, as FamilyWorks has also lost a regular source of non-perishable donations through the coronavirus-prevention-suspension of ‘Supermarket Saturdays’.

There is more need than ever in our community, and if you can give, please consider giving to FamilyWorks!
