On Friday, August 5th, get ready to walk Fremont as the First Friday Art Walk offers up another amazing selection of venues and artists for your perusing pleasure.
Before setting out, review the list of participating venues on the FFF website and make a stroll by Red Triangle – and the Lenin statue – a mandatory feature of your itinerary. The August ‘Live At Lenin’ features one-man band Nick Moyer, performing simultaneously on his accordion, trumpet, and drum from 7p – 8p. Check out a video clip of Moyer performing at the Ballard Farmers Market!
Also this evening, check out the variety of art forms including textile sculptures by Ann Maki at ArtFX Gallery, landscape photography by Doug Tostenson at Frame-Up Studios, cigar box guitars by John Hughes and Ed McGehee (as well as photographs by Josh Hughes) at Fremont Cigar, illustrations by Derrick Sullivan at Portage Bay Goods, tile art (made from recycled tiles and materials) by Marko Reyes-Jech at Pie and metalwork sculptures by Michael Pond at Urban Earth.
Many of the galleries this month feature a traditional art form – painting – and prove the limitlessness of this discipline in the wide wealth of its applications. Johnston Architects, in far east Fremont, displays the paintings by Moon Lee, a student of painting in her native South Korea and printmaking at Cornish College in Seattle. Our newest venue, Brown Paper Tickets, has surrealist paintings by Brian Nunes used to depict his inner imaginings in vivid ways. Returning venue, Renaun Design, will feature paintings by Ria Harboe, influenced by light and the lack thereof.
Fremont Jewelry Design features mixed media oil paintings by Lauren T. Kistner alongside displays of their unique and creative jewelry, and Fremont Brewing Company has the paintings by Fiona McGuigan hung in their Urban Beer Garden. The 509 Winery and Tasting Room will have paintings by Lisa Ström – accompanied by live music by Pearl Django Trio.
At Kylie’s Chicago Pizza enjoy acrylic paintings by Cait Willis and at Pel’Meni Dumpling Tzar the mixed media paintings by Christina Thomas – as well as the sustenance for sale ($1 off on dumplings by using the phrase ‘make art, not war.’) Evo TimesInfinity Gallery features paintings by Tessa Hulls – and get a close-up view of the bold new mural on the west facing outer wall of their building!
So much to see, and so little time! The Fremont First Friday Art Walk saunters the sidewalks from 6p – 9p. This month, however, attendees can follow it up, at dusk, with the 40th Anniversary tribute screening of A Clockwork Orange at a special Friday night Fremont Outdoor Cinema. Go rest those tired toes after a night spent strolling among art venues!
