This weekend and next (January 19th – 28th,) at 8p at West of Lenin, Robert Lopez, as Mister Bob, presents ‘The Unhappy Hour’. This 70-minute journey, delivered with world weary wit, is a warning for the coming end of daze, accompanied by piano.
Performed in a black suit (with humor even blacker) ‘The Unhappy Hour’ features international sensation Robert Lopez (a.k.a. El Vez, The Mexican Elvis) delivering monologues on a constellation of topics – gun control, clowns, antidepressants, politics, Googling, Jeffrey Dahmer, death, dreams, and love (or the lack thereof.)
With live music by Tom Kellock, a veteran Teatro ZinZanni musician and accomplished accompanist, ‘The Unhappy Hour’ delivers musical references running the gamut from Judy Garland to Judy Collins, with stops for Beethoven, Patsy Cline and even Little Jimmy Scott. Expect not-so-typical jazz standards, pop, cabaret, protest songs and lullabies.
Purchase tickets to shows either weekend, or a special industry night on Monday, January 23rd at 8p, through the West of Lenin website. Tickets cost only $20, and can also be purchased at the door – as long as seats remain available. Everybody’s happy nowadays – Come on down for ‘The Unhappy Hour’!
