On Thursday, January 19th, at 5:30p, members of the theater community – from Broadway to community theaters to school drama programs – will come together to light the night, and launch ‘The Ghostlight Project’. This showing of support will include a gathering at Fremont’s own West of Lenin.
At 5:30p, in each time zone, people will join in a collective, simultaneous action, creating a ‘light’ to guide us all through our challenging times. Inspired by the tradition of leaving a ‘ghostlight’ on in a darkened theater, artists and audience members will make (or renew) a community pledge to stand for and protect the values of inclusion, participation, and compassion for everyone. January 19th will mark a community commitment to resist intolerance and create brave spaces that serve as lights.
Join the community at West of Lenin, and take the pledge. Please bring a light source: flashlight, lantern, phone app, etc. Also, please arrive early (no ‘Fremont-time’) as the event will begin promptly at 5:30p.
“With the uncertainty and increasing fears of censorship in this country, it’s crucial to have a collective event like ‘The Ghostlight Project,’” wrote WofL founder A.J. Epstein, “you have my promise that it is our mission to tilt and keep tilting the balance towards a more inclusive venue…”
Please show your support, and your light, at West of Lenin on Thursday, January 19th, at 5:30p. Find more details at theghostlightproject.com
