West of Lenin Premiere Performance: Sandbox Radio

This summer Fremont has many reasons to celebrate, including the arrival west of the Interurban and west of the center of the universe of West Of Lenin, a new 88-seat black box theater space now available for small theatrical works and live music performances, at 203 N 36th St.

More information will be available soon on Fremocentrist.com, but the first show has already been scheduled:  Sandbox Radio takes the stage, live, on Monday, June 20th at 8p.

The Sandbox Artists Collective consists of mid-career theater artists who share resources, encourage each other and create new works together with Sandbox Radio as a prime example – and a hopeful start of a quarterly series.

“I have always been in love with radio theater,” explained Leslie Law, by e-mail, of the ‘new play festival for the radio,’ that will be recorded live for podcast.  “We hope to capture the feel of live performance in the recording by doing the show in front of an audience, yet give the podcast listener a full experience by crafting the material especially for the ear,” Law explained.

The show on June 20th will include:

  • New short plays & poetry by Scot Augustson, Vincent Delaney, Elizabeth Heffron, Chuck Leggett, Anita Montgomery, Paul Mullin, and Elizabeth Heffron
  • Original songs and underscoring by Jose Gonzales, Leslie Law, Chuck Leggett, Dave Pascal, Dan Tierney, and Rob Witmer
  • Performances by E. Ray Anderson, Norman Bell, Christine Marie Brown, Jose Gonzales, Sarah Harlett, Victor Janusz, Kelly Kitchens, Mik Kuhlman, Leslie Law, Chuck Leggett, Todd Moore, Dave Natale, K. Brian Neel, Makaela Pollock, Dan Tierney, Annette Toutonghi, and Seanjohn Walsh

The show takes the stage one-night-only, in the West Of Lenin theater created by A.J. Epstein, a member of The Sandbox Collective.  Admission is free, but donations to the Collective will be gratefully accepted.  Doors open at 7:30p, with live music, until the show begins at 8p.  Please make a reservation at Brown Paper Tickets

…and stay tuned to hear more about this amazing new resource, as another theater opens in Fremont!
