Westlake Cycle Track Project Continues Forward

Last Monday, October 28th, the Seattle Department Of Transportation held an open house at B.F. Day Elementary School – and the people packed in to learn more about this planned project to build a dedicated lane for cyclists on Westlake Avenue.  SDOT reported that approximately 325 people attended the meeting, and 150 comment cards were submitted.

Input from the open house is expected to be compiled and summarized, and shared on the Westlake Cycle Track Project webpage.  The presentation and display board information shared at the open house can currently be seen on that site.

Analysis is going on currently of the existing conditions on Westlake Avenue, between Lake Union Park and the Fremont Bridge, including traffic and parking studies.  A community design charrette will be held in March/April 2014 with representatives from stakeholder groups invited to work with the design team to evaluate and further develop alternatives.  Following that, another public open house is promised for review of the preferred alternatives.

For now, SDOT has stated, “your feedback is welcome at all phases of the project, so contact us with any comments or questions” at WCT@seattle.gov or on the hotline at 206/909-8578.
