This month animals from our Woodland Park Zoo took a field trip to Pike Place Market as a celebration of local culture & shops, as part of the Wild At Heart partnership. For 2021, Woodland Park inhabitants are collaborating with some of Seattle’s greatest cultural organizations for photo shoots that highlight the best of what our region has to offer – from our Zoo and our community.
For June, the Woodland Park Zoo guinea pigs and porcupine went to see the Pike Place Market and explore the crafters, entertainment, farmers, grocery, dining and retail of this incredible community.
As a special bonus, the Market has installed four larger-than-life, temporary, interactive murals – each inspired by the Wild At Heart photos. Take a look at the murals on the Pike Place website (click here,) or stop by for a selfie at this site that has treasures hidden around every corner.
During the June Wild At Heart photo shoot, Skyaana the Porcupine visited Eighth Generation and the wool blankets. The shop is owned by the Snoqualmie Tribe and features products 100% designed by Native people. The Guinea Pigs, Pumpkin, Cider and Camilla, got to snack on a light lettuce lunch at Pike Place Bar & Grill, while completely ignoring the beautiful views of the Public Market Clock & Sign.
Arts, science and heritage are the heart of Seattle, and our community, and both the Zoo and the Market take their places in these traditions and education seriously.
