On October 30th & 31st, from 9:30a – 3p, our animal neighbors at Woodland Park Zoo will celebrate Halloween and autumn fun with the Pumpkin Bash, sponsored by T-Mobile. It’s a great weekend to go see the critters as they enjoy a feast of pumpkins and pumpkin related treats – and children in costume can also trick-or-treat while at the Zoo!
Over the weekend of Halloween, one child, in costume, can get free admission to the Woodland Park Zoo, when accompanied by an admission paying adult. While at the Zoo, the children will be given some treats – and get to watch hippopotami, otters, bears, penguins, meerkats, and others gobble, smash and play with pumpkins.
The pumpkins and other treats are part of the animal care program at the Woodland Park Zoo, and efforts to enrich the lives of the animals. The Pumpkin Bash is planned to encourage natural behaviors, and keep the animals mentally and physically stimulated. The Zoo has events scheduled, on both Saturday & Sunday, to allow visitors to plan when they want to attend and see their favorite critters play. Check the Zoo.org website (click here) for the proposed schedule.
Woodland Park also produces a list, for Halloween and other sweet occasions, of treats produced by companies committed to sourcing certified sustainable palm oil that is deforestation free. Many confections use palm oil, and more and more companies are transforming tropical rain forest land into agricultural land – and confining animals from these tropical habitats to smaller and smaller inhabitable patches. Visit Zoo.org/palmoil to find out the shopping guide, and take one more step toward saving forests and wildlife around the world.
